Who says that Santa Claus is an old man with whiskers? Etienne Box 1251 Chicago 90 Illinois sees him quite differently. And what a reindeer! Isn't this an imaginative painting. Etienne offers an 8x10 print for $1.50 or a color slide for the same price.

In the Spring 58 (Vol. 81) issue of PP, two more of Etienne's Armed Services

FORMER MOSCOW RESIDENT DISCUSSES THE RUSSIAN PHYSIQUE (By David White, a Hollywood television movie producer, and world traveler, who has recently returned from Russia. A personal friend of PP's editor, he has told us some tales about Russia that stands our hair on end!) Several issues back, PP ran a brief editorial touching on body-building (or the lack thereof) in Russia. Having spent some fifteen months in the Soviet Union, I requested (and have been granted) the opportunity to reply. While there are no body-building publications in Russia, as such, this does not indicate lack of interest in physique development. Actually, no "magazines" as we know them (on any subject) are available in Russia, with the unique exception of KROKODILE--a "New-Yorker-Type fiction/humour periodical which, the the way, is printed on cheap newspaper pulp. In spite of this absence of physique publications, most Russian men are built like the proverbial brick outhouse, and are delighted at any opportunity to display said builds, preferably without clothes. I might add that the usual Russian physique, while somewhat stocky by our standards, is almost invariably excellent: far above our own par--particularly in the 25-40 age groups. Pick any 25 Moskovites at random and compare them with 25 Americans (also picked at random) ond, confidentially, the Americans will generally tend to look like a collection of pot-bellied slobs. The banks of the Moskva River in summer look like a Muscle Beach display--except that swim trunks arent worn! Don't disparage them because they haven't access to our gadget-ridden facilities. This magnificence of physique can be somewhat attributed to their more Spartan diet; but I believe it is more attibutable to the fact that, while there are no "systems" offering weights on the installment plan, the average Russian male will keep himself in trim by making do with stuff at hand (i.e., tables chairs, or anything else weighty). So rather than be criticized for their shortcomings in the field of publications, I think they should be applauded for their determination in the face of what we Americans would call insurmountable odds" While not agreeing with them one iota politically, I do feel the average American male would do well to emulate their concern for and interest in physique and bodily development,
